Elisabeth Biondi and Siobhán Bohnacker

Elisabeth Biondi is an independent curator, writer, and teacher based in New York. Born and educated in Germany, Elisabeth started working with photographers when Geo magazine, often described as a more contemporary and controversial version of National Geographic, launched in the US. Subsequently she moved to Vanity Fair, and as Director of Photography, focused on lively, witty portraiture – which became an important element of the magazine’s success. She went on to head the photography department of Stern, one of Germany’s largest newsweeklies, and then moved to The New Yorker as Visuals Editor. She built the New Yorker’s reputation for its use of photography, for which it received numerous awards, including two National Magazine Awards. Since leaving the New Yorker in 2011, she has curated exhibitions across the country and currently teaches at SVA graduate school for photography and related media. She also advises many up-and-coming photographers and edits their work.

Siobhán Bohnacker is a Senior Photo Editor at The New Yorker, where she commissions original photography for the magazine, art directs The New Yorker’s award-winning short fiction section - and curates on photography for The New Yorker. Prior to joining The New Yorker, she worked as a Photo Editor at The New York Times Magazine and from 2009-2012, worked with NGO’s and non-profits (Human Rights Watch, The United Nations Foundation, Free Arts), as well as advertising clients (Nike, Vitamin Water among others), on the production of high-profile portfolios and campaigns. She has served as on-set producer on over 200 photo shoots, most notably for David Remnick’s profile of President Barack Obama. She regularly lectures throughout the year and has served on the jury for numerous international photo contests. Siobhán holds a BFA from Central Saint Martins School of Art (London).
