About the Speaker

Scott Blumenthal is a Deputy Editor on the Interactive News desk at The New York Times, where he builds and oversees the development of tools that help the newsroom experiment with new story forms and communicate with readers in new ways.  Since joining the Times in 2012, has also contributed to individual features and coverage of regular tentpole events such as elections, the Oscars, and the Olympics (including a three week stint in Rio this summer).  He collaborated with the News desk on the creation of the “Watching” homepage module, a timely, curated stream of stories from the Times and around the web.  Previously, Scott was a developer at Daylife, a software company focused on helping media organizations curate their own content and other licensed content on the web.  Scott is also a writer, musician, and actor, and has been performing original work in New York for twenty years.
