Assistant Professor of French

Expertise:
Early modern French literature, marketing and literature, fashion and literature, cultural history

Description:
I work on marketing techniques and fashion in French classical literature, especially the 17th century. Racine’s and Molière’s wonderful plays may well be classics today, but when they were written, they were tailored to raise interest, tears and laughter from their immediate audience and advertised, even through scandals. I contribute to reevaluating a common narrative that sets the past as something free from those material considerations. Rethinking it allows us to better understand where we come from and how today’s world works as well as to reevaluate cultural hierarchies.
