Expertise:

Ancient Christian society, ritual, historian of food and meals in antiquity, commentator on Anglican communion

Description:

I am a historian of ancient Christianity whose work focuses on ritual, including food and meals. My present research focuses on sacrifice and the Christian use and change of ideas connected with food offerings into the familiar notion of altruism involving suffering and death. I am also an Anglican (Episcopal) priest, and I edit the Journal of Anglican Studies for Cambridge University Press, comment on contemporary Anglican Studies, and blog at Saint Ronan Street Diary.
