Filming at Yale

Yale University’s Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC) manages all non-commercial filming on campus, including news and documentary projects. Yale University reviews each proposed project on a case-by-case basis. Yale does not participate in productions that feature violence, drugs, suicide, academic fraud, underage use of alcohol, or profanity.

To request to film or conduct a photography session on campus, please complete the filming application and send a certificate of insurance with the limits outlined on the filming application. Yale requires the completed filming application and certificate of insurance before beginning to review any request. The university also requires a copy of the script or a detailed synopsis, with relevant portions marked, and a detailed description of the project, including how Yale and/or members of Yale’s community will be portrayed and all individuals who will be featured in the project. These should be uploaded with the filming application. Please allow 10 business days for Yale to consider the proposed project.

Production companies are required to sign a facilities use agreement prior to arriving on campus. Please note that it may take up to 14 business days to process filming facility use agreements.

Students under the age of 18 must have their parent or guardian sign the film company’s release form. Students who are age 18 or over may sign on their own. All students should be informed that their participation and signing of agreements and forms related to this filming is voluntary.

Please email filming@yale.edu for more information.
