Assistant Professor of Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases)
Field:
Expertise:
Vaccination, statistical modeling, program evaluation, pneumococcus, pneumonia
Description:
The Weinberger Lab’s research focuses on the mechanisms driving the observed epidemiological patterns of respiratory infections, particularly pneumococcal disease and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Pneumococcus causes a large burden of disease worldwide, particularly among young children and the elderly. Major research questions in the lab are related to long-term bacterial evolution, impacts of immunization on carriage and disease in different populations, and seasonal determinants of bacterial disease incidence (including viral co-infections and carriage).
