The annual Yale Statement Makers workshop, managed by the Media Relations team in the Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC), focuses on helping faculty communicate their expertise more effectively to large audiences across mainstream media platforms.

The 2024 program includes an op-ed writing presentation led by Teresa Tritch, a former member of the editorial board at The New York Times; a media training workshop provided by OPAC’s media relations team; and a social-media best practices presentation from Dan Corcoran, OPAC’s chief communications officer. In addition, Dr. Akiko Iwasaki, Sterling Professor of Immunobiology and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the Yale School of Medicine, will discuss her experiences engaging with the media.

The skill-building that Statement Makers provides can help faculty members in partnering with OPAC to amplify their areas of expertise and gain further confidence in sharing their though leadership on major, timely issues. The program strives to connect faculty with colleagues from across Yale for lasting collaboration and professional support.
