About Michael Erard
Michael Erard is a journalist whose essays, reviews, and reportage have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, Science, Wired, Nautilus, Slate, The Atlantic, New Scientist, Reason, and The Morning News. He has an MA in linguistics and PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin, and has written two books on language: Um…: Slips, Stumbles, and Verbal Blunders, and What They Mean, and Babel No More: The Search for the World’s Most Extraordinary Language Learners. Most recently, he is the founder and editor of Schwa Fire, an online publication that produces long-form journalism stories about language.
