About Dean Starkman

Dean Starkman, assistant managing editor of the Columbia Journalism Review and a Pulitzer Prize winner for team reporting in 1994, runs The Audit, an online critique of financial journalism. He recently finished a yearlong stint as a Katrina Media Fellow at the Open Society Institute, during which he explored the insurance industry’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Starkman’s past experience also includes time at the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the Providence Journal, where he led an investigative team on a Pulitzer Prize-winning probe of the Rhode Island court system.
