Elena Kostyuchenko

Elena Kostyuchenko is a Russian journalist, author, and activist who reports on marginalized communities, human rights, and conflicts. She was among the first to write about the protest rock band Pussy Riot and the presence of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine. A campaigner for gay rights and an investigative journalist for the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, she is also the author of two collections, Unwanted on Probation and It’s Us Who Will Live Here. She is a recipient of a European Press Prize, the Gerd Bucerius Award-Free Press of Eastern Europe and Paul Klebnikov Award
