About Susan Orlean

Susan Orlean has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1992, where she works on signature features and profiles, many exploring under-reported aspects of American culture. Her journalistic work has been broadly anthologized in collections including Norman Sims and Mark Kramer’s Literary Journalism and Ira Glass’s The New Kings of Nonfiction. Ms. Orlean is also the author of a half dozen books including Lazy Little Loafers; My Kind of Place; The Orchid Thief; and The Bullfighter Checks her Makeup. Her most recent book, Rin Tin Tin, is a biography of the canine actor. It was published in 2011.
