About Yi-Ling Liu

Yi-Ling Liu is a writer based in China. Her work on Chinese society, technology & culture has been published in the New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, WIRED, and the New Yorker on topics ranging from science-fiction novelists to rural live-streamers to gay dating apps. She writes a column on the Chinese internet for Rest of World, and is writing a book about individuals in China navigating the ever-shifting boundaries of the state on public life, to be published by Penguin. She is a 2021 New America Fellow, a recipient of the Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award, and an Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholar.
